Global Family Fun Day 2010
“Migrants flock to family fun day”. By Event organiser Akiko Miyamoto
On Sunday 25th April 2010, we had more than 150 people of all ages attending. People from 21 different countries attended the Global Family Fun Day at We created a fun time for families and to help new migrants become involved in physical community activities. We also honoured all those who sacrificed so much so that we can live in peace and harmony again, as this was Anzac Day. Thanks to all the committee members who made the event so successful. I could see people all playing together and everyone enjoyed participating in the activities. This time the event highlight was “Origami Medals” handed out to event winners. Also we made origami flowers, animals and birds for all participants. Last year, some children didn’t get a prize and were crying. This time, though, all participants received origami flowers, animals and birds.
The event was supported by the Canterbury Community Trust, Victory Community Centre, Way 2 Go, Sport Tasman, and the many Nelson businesses that sponsored prizes. Finally, I would like to thank the committee and 30 volunteers for the hard work they put in to organising the event.
