Rainbow Praise: Many People – Many Songs
Rainbow Praise ~ Many People Many Songs
Nelson Multicultural Council organises this special event where Christian choirs from different ethnic communities come together and share their songs of worship. Rainbow Praise is a chance for people to see and hear how other people worship with music. In spite of our different cultures, people actually have a lot in common, and this service is a way of welcoming people into our community and showing we are interested in them. Rainbow Praise 2009 400 singers from nine choirs participated in this very special service. Aotearoa New Zealand, Tonga, Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu, The Philippines, Korea and Chin State, Myanmar were all represented. Many of the singers were visiting orchard workers from the Pacific Islands and some were local residents. Nelson Cathedral was packed with close to 1,000 people. Afterwards, people had a chance to mingle when afternoon tea was served in the grounds of the Cathedral. Some of the service was filmed for the TV programme, Asia Down Under. Earlier, the NMC co-ordinator and the field worker, along with some other Asian people who have settled in the Nelson region, were interviewed. You can see it by clicking here: |
