Week of Prayer for World Peace
19-26 October 2008 was the Week of Prayer for World Peace, which is an annual inter-faith event, promoted by Nelson Multicultural Council to all the faiths in the Nelson region. A pamphlet containing prayers for peace from a diverse range of faiths was sent, along with an invitation to participate. A timetable of services, prayer and meditation was then drawn up and circulated to all faiths. This schedule was also advertised in the local newspaper. The Nelson Public Library gave us space to display the holy books of various faiths which were donated specially by Nelson Multicultural Council members: Eastern Orthodox, Christian, Buddhist, Sikh, Muslim, Baha’i and Quaker. Another table inside the library displayed books on various religions, belonging to the library as well as give-away copies of the HRC Statement on Religious Diversity and the Statement on Race Relations in Aotearoa New Zealand.
