Stopping Violence Program
Stopping Violence Services Nelson delivers a program called “Breaking the Cycle”, which is designed to assist clients in recognizing the need for change in their lives and develop strategies to manage and implement those changes. The program of 12 weekly sessions, including counseling, is a progression of reflective, educational and active practices.
For young offenders, assistance in self-management at a particularly vulnerable point in time can set their lives on a different, more positive path-way, and may mean avoiding entrapment in the criminal world of offending, re-offending and self-destruction.
For clients with English as another language, interpreting support is necessary for the programme to be effective. It is essential that the client is able to be self-expressive in their first language to obtain the best results.
A former refugee client is being funded by Ignite with interpreting through “Breaking the Cycle”. This pilot project, where first language support is provided, will give an indication of the effectiveness of this method of delivery of the program.
