Evey McAuliffe, Co-ordinator

Originally from Ireland, Evey travelled extensively before settling in New Zealand in 1986.She loves living in Nelson and is passionate about the work of the Nelson Multicultural Council.
As co-ordinator, it is her job to ensure that there is enough funding to pay the overheads and salaries so that the organisation can continue its work. She also works at a strategic level, meeting regularly with government and non-government agencies to ensure the needs of migrants are met.
Evey makes the most of media opportunities and organises some of the major events that raise public awareness of cultural diversity.
She knows the Nelson community well, and is happy to share that knowledge in order to connect people to their community.
She can be found at the Nelson Multicultural Resource Centre and is happy to meet newcomers as well as residents who are seeking information.

Cristy Aydon, Field Worker

Cristy Aydon came to New Zealand from the Philippines in 2000. She is married to a Kiwi and she has three children.
She knows what it is like to adapt to a new country: to maintain her own culture whilst adjusting to New Zealand life and becoming a participating member of the community.
Cristy was an active member of Nelson Multicultural Council before being employed as its first Field Worker in 2006.
She is passionate about assisting people on their journey towards settlement, whether they are newcomers or people from minority ethnicities.
As Field Worker, she is happy to sit down and discuss the issues affecting successful settlement. She can provide useful information, help prioritize needs and work with the client to address those needs, either through introducing them to relevant services/agencies or networking with others in the community.
